Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa
THE ULTIMATE BUCKET LIST DESTINATION
If you’re planning a trip to Bora Bora there’s no doubt you should add the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa to your bucket list. This tropical paradise is truly one of the most luxurious experiences I have ever lived.
Set amongst lush palm lined gardens, iridescent blue oceans and breathtaking views you will find the Bora Bora resort dreams are made of.
We enjoyed two nights at the resort and stayed in an ‘Overwater Villa Bora Bora Island View’
GETTING THERE…
Bora Bora is located 50 minutes away from the Fa'a'ā Tahiti International Airport by plane. The flight is open seating so it is recommended to arrive early in order aquire prime seats! The locals recommend sitting on the Left hand side of the aircraft as this position offers the best incoming arial views of breathtaking Bora Bora from above. On a clear day you will also be able to enjoy spectacular birds-eye views of the islands named Mo'orea and Huahine-Iti.
The Bora Bora airport is an experience within itself located on an a separate islet surrounded by turquoise seas. You are greeted by the friendly staff from the Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort with a traditional Tahitian Tiare flower necklace and ushered to a private boat which transfers you across the sparkling lagoon to the resort.
THE ARRIVAL
we arrived to the property in the afternoon and were greeted by the most incredible welcome drinks and soft lit sunset skies.
THE FOOD
With three onsite restaurants; there really is something for everyone! Our favourite meal however was the buffet breakfast which boasted a fresh egg bar, warm crepes or pancakes and an assortment of delicious tropical fruit alongside all your classic breakfast favourites like sourdough bread, smoked salmon and crispy bacon!
THE PROPERTY
The views across the lagoon towards Mount Otemanu are truly spectacular from every angle of the resort.
One of our favourite areas of the property to explore was the onsite Lagoonarium; a sheltered habitat and coral nursery that is home to the most beautiful tropical fish! This was also a very peaceful place to enjoy the sunset reflections across the calm water with views across to the glass bottom chapel; one of the locations you can organise to enjoy a romantic dinner for two or traditional Polynesian wedding ceremony!
THE OVERWATER VILLA
Our unique overwater villa had its own balcony and deck with direct access to the ocean! We loved being able to jump straight into the sea each morning.
Our living room had a glass bottom coffee table that opened up so that you could feed the fish at night.
DAILY ACTIVITIES AND RELAXATION
Our first full day at the resort we enjoyed the morning paddle boarding through the lagoon and swimming out the front of the bungalow.
This was followed by a relaxing bath overlooking a beautiful view with a wine in hand!
Every day the resort hosts interactive group activities.
We learnt the traditional way to de-husk and open a coconut using wooden tools and had the opportunity to discuss Polynesian culture with the staff.
LOVE LOCK TIKI GARDEN
From unique tropical flowers to sprawling intricate vines the gardens surrounding the resort are a work of art! Between the paths of the garden you will find the secret garden of love. A tranquil place where Lovers can their lock their love and place the keys in the mouth of a Polynesian Tiki statue that symbolises the protection of love forever. Honeymooners are encouraged to bring their own personalised locks from home or they can be purchased from the resort boutique.
The views from all angles of the resort were incredible but particularly breathtaking from the pool!
After an afternoon swim we got ready for dinner and visited the Bubbles Bar for a sundown cocktail. It was here we met a lovely couple at drinks who invited us to come on their boat excursion the following day!
It was a highlight of the entire trip! we went on a 4 hour lap of the island on the most lavish boat.
The private tour included stops at two unbelievable snorkelling spots, a pristine beach and the infamous Bloody Marys Bora Bora yacht club and bar.
This was a great way to see the rest of the island and enjoy a cocktail overlooking Mount Otemanu from a different perspective.
The two popular snorkelling spots we visited were known as ‘The Lagoon’ and the ‘Coral Garden’. I could not believe my eyes at both of these places; it was the clearest, most iridescent azure water I had ever seen and I felt so excited to go for a swim! There were friendly reef sharks on the outskirts of ‘The Lagoon’ and thousands of striped tropical fish to swim through the live coral at the ‘Coral Garden’.
We had our final sunset drink at the resorts phenomenal Sands Bar also known as the ‘Sunset Theatre’ where we watched the colours of the sky melt while sipping on classic margaritas and cosmos! it was the perfect day and way to end a lovely stay!
FROM SUNRISE TO SUNSET
In conclusion this place is 100% one for the bucket list! From sunrise to sunset it boasts pristine natural beauty accompanied by world class service.
I would recommend a stay at InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa to anyone looking for the romantic trip of a lifetime!
With love and light,
